Switch-Ups
A downloadable project for Windows and Linux
Switch-Ups is a multiplayer turn based monster collector battle simulator school final project. But being a battle simulator, the "collector" part of the monster collector isn't included.
=========== [ Notice ] ===========
If you found this page by accident, know that, while I am proud of what I have done, this is a school project. As a "real game", it is missing quite a lot. You might still have a bit of fun? but there are quite a few more complete games on itch and elsewhere...
=============================
Battle against a friend and attempt to break their spirits' defenses and bring their life points to 0 by using your own team of spirits. Finding ways to break the rules is encouraged.
In need of a specific action not found. Equip a spirit to your spirit to add one of the equipped spirit's action to your spirit's action pool, at the cost of adding the weaknesses of the equipped spirit. (Not confusing at all to explain =] )
A manual and a spirit compendium is included so that you can enter the fight with knowledge!
This is a 2 player multiplayer only game. I would recommend playing it in a private network if possible (private VPN, LAN game, mobile hotspot with no internet connection, using two screens faced away from each other connected to the same computer and passing the mouse over, etc) for best results, but port forwarding should work as well.
This is also a final project for school, so expect "Student game project from somebody not even in a game dev course just yet" quality.
Attributions for graphics, code snippet, and music used is available in the credits menu.
Want to see how it works, or mod it to make it actually balanced? The project files is available under an MIT license here : https://github.com/nathannino/switch-ups-proto-public

Install instructions
Note that the Windows executable is not signed.
This might cause issues with your antivirus, and will most likely lead Windows Defender to block the application.
If only Windows Defender blocks the application, you should be able to press "read more" so that the "Run Anyways" button becomes available.
(or even better, grab the project files, audit it, and compile it yourself)
